Sharon Leah (Talbot) Maloney

Sharon L. Maloney--formerly of Franklin, KY, age 80, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at The Township Senior Living Community in Battlefield, Missouri.

Sharon was born September 5, 1940 to the late William and Gilda (Certano) Talbot of Pontiac, Michigan.

As a young girl, Sharon enjoyed playing concert piano, ice skating and cheerleading for St. Frederick High School. She graduated with a Home Economics & Family Living teaching degree from Michigan State University in 1961 and taught Home Economics for one year in Owaso, Michigan. She met her husband of 57 years, Stephen J. Maloney, DVM at Michigan State and they were married September 28, 1963. They traveled with the U.S. Army Veterinary Corp. to Fort Ord, California and Camp Darby, Italy (where their first two children were born). Sharon then returned back to Michigan while Steve served in Vietnam. Their family settled in Franklin, Kentucky in 1967 to join the Simpson County Animal Hospital; and Sharon and Steve became involved with St. Mary Catholic Church and the community. Sharon took on the title of homemaker as the family seamstress and Mom of eight children. Sharon was always involved in her children’s activities as well as in the community as: Girl Scout leader, CCD Teacher, Right-To-Life advocate, Day Care worker, Simpson County Extension Office member, Habitat for Humanity worker, and even returning to school to obtain a Masters in Reading from Western Kentucky University. As her children grew older, Sharon went back to teach high school Home Economics for 14 more years. Sharon continued her work with St. Mary Catholic Church’s Ladies Guild and became the first Librarian for the church. Sharon was an accomplished seamstress and cook, grew and arranged flowers, and loved to entertain, especially her “Red Hat Ladies.” During the past twenty years, she has shown great Faith and Humility as she had to let others take care of her as she lived daily with Parkinson’s and in her last years, dementia.Sharon is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Stephen Maloney; eight children, Sheila Gillett (Brian) of Ft.
