Mr. Brent Kirby, age 78 of Franklin, KY, passed away Thursday, December 17th, 2020 at 9:34 PM at the Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, December 20th, 2020 and from 6:00 am until funeral service time Monday at Gilbert Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 21st, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY. Wearing a mask and social distancing are required.
Brent was born February 7th, 1942 in Simpson Co., KY to the late Harry Kirby and the late Isabel Byrum Kirby. He was preceded in death by daughter Sharon Kolehmainen, and four of his siblings: Donald Kirby; Ollie “Spudie” Kirby; Annie Reid Rhea; and Louis Kirby.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sue Lynn Kirby; two children - Belinda Cotter (Joe) of Mt. Eden, KY and Arnie Kirby (Theresa) of Hendersonville, TN; four step-children - Scott Cummings (Holly) of Bowling Green, KY, Kelly Cummings (Chrissy) of Franklin, KY, Lisa Scott (Bill Doug) of Franklin, KY, Matt Cummings (Lucy) of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Bruce and Lindsey Kirby; and grandchildren Nick Kolehmainen, Jennifer Fishburn, Erik Kolemainen, Ian, Jack and Ellie Kirby, Charlie Cummings, Christopher Cummings, Shelby Scott, and Callie and Austin Cummings, as well as several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Never seeking the spotlight, Brent was a kind soul who loved his community and was willing to serve whenever and wherever asked - whether through his church or through his membership in the Lions club. During his life, he enjoyed many hobbies that included bowling, fishing, and later in life, golfing. After retiring from Potter & Brumfield after 40+ years, he enjoyed the new friendships that he and Sue Lynn made while vacationing annually at the beach.
