William Stanley Barney

Mr. William S. Barney, age 88 of Franklin, KY., entered into rest Saturday, December 24, 2016 at 5:27 PM at the St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbert Funeral Home where services will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 with military honors by the Simpson County Honor Guard.  Cremation will follow the service.

He was born October 6, 1928 in Columbus, OH., to the late Charles Lee Barney and the late Nellie Mae Griffing Barney.  He was the husband of the late Martha Lou Barney.  A son John W. Evans, grandson Nick Hagood, a brother Buddy Barney and 3 sisters Frances Boyer, Edna Mae Kidwell, Mary Alice Mayhew and Anna Woods preceded him in death.

He is survived by 2 daughters Shonna Deaton (Charles) of Cottontown, TN. and Diane S. Hagood (Lew) of Marietta, GA.., a daughter-in-law Joann Evans of Columbus, OH., 6 grandchildren Jodi, Jay, and Jill Evans, Ben Hagood, Lindsay Jolly and Kayla Johnson and 8 great grandchildren.

Mr. Barney was a die hard Ohio State Buckeye fan. He was a family man and enjoyed playing with his great-grandsons, Jake and Cade. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He was retired plant manager at Weyerhaeuser and was a Korean War Army Veteran.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Gilbert Funeral Home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
