It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Sidney Link, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who left us on Friday, August 14th, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on November 9th, 1953, in Tucson, Arizona, Mike was a longtime resident of Franklin, Kentucky.
Mike led a life rich in love, adventure, faith and dedication to his family and church. Growing up in a military family, he traveled extensively, living in places such as Savannah, GA; England; Manchester, NH; Sumpter, SC; and Chattanooga, TN. Despite the relocations, Franklin, KY, ultimately became his lifelong home.
A proud alumnus of Franklin-Simpson High School, where he graduated in 1971, Michael later pursued an associate’s degree in HVAC and electric. His career spanned 43 years as a committed and respected lineman with the Franklin Electric Plant Board. His work family there was as much a part of his life as his own relatives.
Mike's talents and passions were many. He found joy in coaching baseball and embraced the serenity of fly fishing and kayaking. He was also an artisan, meticulously crafting beautiful stained glass pieces that will serve as lasting memories for those he loved.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife of 50 plus years, Brenda Link; their two sons, Derek Link of Bowling Green, KY, and Casey Link (Kim) of Bowling Green, KY. He cherished his role as a grandfather to his grandchildren, Kinsley, Kellan, and Caleb, and his honorary grandson, Cole Wix. Mike also leaves behind his brother, Donnie Link (Fran) of Evansville, IN, his sister, Lisa Boren of Franklin, KY, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest V. Link and Thelma (Atwood) Link, and his brother-in-law, Ken Boren.
A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at First Baptist Church, 303 East Cedar Street in Franklin, KY, on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Friends are invited to gather for visitation at the church from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the same day.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mike's memory to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Feeding America, located at 303 East Cedar Street, Franklin, KY 42134. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. For those who wish to reach out or need additional information, more details can be found at www.gilbertfhonline.com or by contacting them at 270-586-4464.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
