Mary Elizabeth Brown

Mary E. Brown, born on Sunday, May 30th, 1948, in Camden, Maine, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 11th, 2026, in Woodburn, Kentucky.

Mary was a strong, fiercely loving mother to her children. Before retirement, she was a beloved sales associate at Wal-Mart, where she spent many years building friendships with colleagues and customers alike. She was a warm-hearted individual who could often be found engaging strangers in conversation, showcasing her natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life. She kept everyone on their toes with her sharp wit and clever humor. She loved sewing and was known for designing and handcrafting elaborate, one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes from scratch. Mary also had a deep love for dogs and was an avid fan of both the Florida Gators and the New England Patriots.

She is survived by her four children: Byron Guthrie (Christina) of Franklin, KY; Bethany Hawks (Todd) of Lawrenceville, GA; Courtney Ann Wilson of Norman, OK; and Craig Richard Hartland Brown of Bowling Green, KY. Mary was a proud grandmother to Michael Guthrie (Lacey), Nicholas Guthrie (Cortney), Georgia Kepley (Kolten), Alexandria Guthrie, Caedon Hawks, Camden Hawks, Carsyn Hawks, and Carrigan Alice Wilson. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: McKenzie Guthrie, Izaiah Guthrie, Wyatt Guthrie, Akin Kepley, and Thatcher Kepley. She is also survived by her brother, Irvin C. “Cory” Elmer II, as well as cherished family members Jacquie, Jure, Lynn Alice, Noelle, and many other special friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd R. Brown; her parents, Irvin C. Elmer and Maureen Victory (Hartland); and her sister, Nanci Hartland.

A Memorial Mass will be held to honor Mary’s life at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 434 Church Ave. in Bowling Green, KY, on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026, at 10:00 am. Visitation will also take place at the church on the same day from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, prior to the service.
