Mary Welty Barton

It is with sadness that the family of Mary Welty Barton, 93, announces her passing on June 22, 2026.

Born in Franklin, Kentucky, Mary grew up on a farm and loved country life. After graduating from high school, Mary pursued secretarial and business courses at Western Kentucky State College. She worked as a civilian secretary for the United States Army where she met her husband, Tom.

Mary possessed a fun-loving, mischievous attitude and was devoted to her family. She was a kind friend and neighbor, and volunteered in her community. Her hobbies were cooking, crafts, bowling, entertaining and playing games. She and her husband spent the last three decades of their life in their favorite role, that of being grandparents. She is greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her daughter Carol and son-in-law Kim, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents, Jack and Lizzie Welty; and her sister, Ann.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory, 325 West Cedar Street in Franklin, KY.
