James "Jim" Dewey Brantley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and son, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on Monday, June 21st, 1954, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Jim moved to Bowling Green, KY when he married his wife in 1981.
Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Jane Garrett Brantley, and their son, Nicholas "Nick" Brantley, along with his wife Kacey, all residing in Bowling Green, KY. He was a proud grandfather to Silas Brantley. Jim is also survived by his loving mother, Vernell "Nell" Brantley of Cartersville, GA, and his sister, Laurie Dias, and her husband Mike of Kennesaw, GA. He was preceded in death by his father, George Dewey Brantley, Jr., and his sister, Jo Ann Brantley.
Jim began his career as an over-the-road truck driver for Rockwell International. Later as a graduate of Western Kentucky University, Jim dedicated his career to the field of computer technology, working as a Computer Technician. His expertise and passion for technology were evident in his roles with Kelly Office Systems, Holley Performance Products, and Superior One Source. Before embarking on his career in IT, Jim proudly served his country in the Air Force. Later in life, he enjoyed the open road again as a truck driver for Werner.
He grew up surfing the waves in Gulf Shores with his cousin and skiing in the mountains while stationed in Montana. He had a life long love of reading, writing and creating music playing his guitar.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate James's life at a memorial service on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, at Woodburn Baptist Church, 600 Woodburn Allen Springs Road in Woodburn, KY at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by the memorial service at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at stjude.org or the local Humane Society, organizations that Jim held dear.
