Jack Hargis Downey

Mr. Jack Hargis Downey, age 90, of Franklin, KY, passed away, Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at 9:15 AM at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 27th, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery on March 27th at 3:00 PM with military honors given by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

Jack was born on May 25th, 1930 in Woodburn, KY to the late Ernest Ragland Downey and the late Mable Hargis Downey.  He is also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Downey; a brother, Joe Downey; and a sister, Hazel Perry.

He is survived by his 2 children, Jackie Gent of Franklin, KY and Dana Scott (Jamie) of Woodburn, KY; 4 grandchildren, Josh Gent (Amy), Leslie Gent, Haydon Scott (Rachel) and Carra Scott; 3 great-grandchildren, Spencer Gent, Tucker Scott and Kendall Scott; his special companion, Estelle Hanley of Franklin, KY; a half-sister, Bobbie Jean Dickerson of Woodburn, KY; and 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

Jack was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a MP in the Korean War.  Jack was a farmer.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #62 where he served on the House Committee.  Jack loved music and enjoyed to dance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are to be made to the Simpson County Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1043, Franklin, KY 42135-1043.
