Mr. Harold Thomas Kennedy, age 97 of Franklin, KY passed away on March 18, 2023 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY.
Mr. Kennedy’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the VFW Post #5706, 823 N. Main St. Franklin, KY 42134
Harold was born on January 11, 1926 in Bowling Green, KY to the late Robert Lee Kennedy and the late Artie Hickman Kennedy. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Lightfoot Kennedy; 3 sons, Dennis Michael Kennedy, Michael Alan Kennedy, and David Alan Kennedy; and 4 brothers, Jim Kennedy, David Kennedy, Joe Kennedy and Boney Kennedy.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Dona Kennedy, of Franklin, KY, Cheryl Lowrance (Doug) of Portland, TN, and June Patterson of MS; 8 grandchildren, Thomas Kennedy, Anika Kennedy Deweese, Robert Kennedy, Bobby Brake, Maranda Dozier, Kathryn Lowrance, Denice Patterson, and Danny Patterson; in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Harold and Phyllis opened Kennedy Jewelers in Franklin, KY in 1953 where it remained open until 2020. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 14 and went on to fight in World War II. Harold was a lifetime Mason, a Kentucky Colonel, a lifetime member of VFW Post 5706, American Legion Post 61, and Am Vets Post 110. He was also licensed pilot; he helped open WHAK airfield in Franklin, KY which is now known as Welcome Field and helped open the racetrack at Beech Bend in Bowling Green, KY. Harold enjoyed race cars, go-karts, boats, jug-fishing with his buddies, and camping out of his van, “Old Yeller.”
