Glenda VanDyke Taylor

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glenda VanDyke Taylor, who peacefully left this world on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, at the age of 88. A cherished resident of Franklin KY, Glenda was born in Memphis, TN, on Saturday July 17, 1937 and graduated High School in Lexington, TN. She spent her last few years at Vitality Assisted Living, Hendersonville, TN.

Glenda was a loving homemaker, dedicating her life to her family and her faith. Her nurturing spirit and warm heart extended beyond her home as she became a familiar face in the community of Franklin, KY, through her work in the past with the Simpson County Welcome Wagon. She lovingly welcomed new citizens to the community, making everyone feel at home. Glenda was a member of Franklin Church of Christ and found joy in teaching; she served as a Sunday School teacher and led ladies Bible classes for 25 years, nourishing the faith of many. She was a servant for the Lord.

Glenda's favorite pastimes were attending Church, eating out (especially spaghetti), and traveling and spending time with her two daughters. A talented musician; Glenda played the piano beautifully by ear and had a passion for singing. She loved to listen or sing gospel songs with others. Her lively spirit shone bright with her sense of humor, funny sayings, and wonderful personality. Glenda had a way with communicating and making everyone feel welcome, whether it be talking one on one, public speaking or just a personal note or card. Glenda was known for sending many cards to others as her ministry; she even wrote a poem or two to send to friends on special occasions. She was also known as the last one to leave the church building after service as she had to make sure to speak to everyone. Her favorite colors were the soft, peaceful shades of lavender and mauve, which mirrored her gentle soul.

Glenda's education journey began at David Lipscomb College, after high school, reflecting her commitment to learning and growing. Her life's work as a homemaker was the foundation of her family's love and unity.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cordell Thomas Taylor; her parents, Joe Cooke VanDyke, Sr., and Charlotte “Mono” (Locke) VanDyke; and her brother, Joe Cooke VanDyke, Jr.
