Frances Mary (Fanning) Hain

May 27, 1952 — March 19, 2022

On March 19th, 2022, Frances Hain said goodbye after a four-year battle with cancer.

She is survived by Spouse of 46 years Barry Hain, Meggan Hain of Franklin, KY, Rosalind Hain of Frederick, MD, Alexander Hain (Lauren) of Doha, Qatar, Georgina Hain of Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2 grandchildren, Simon and Josephine Hain, siblings, Jane Bennett-Reese, Peter Fanning, Helen Stengel and a million magical memories.

Arrangements are under the care of Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory.  A memorial service will be held at Franklin Presbyterian Church, Franklin, Ky on Saturday, April 2nd at 3:00pm CST.  The service will be live streamed on the Franklin Presbyterian Church Facebook and YouTube page, with a recording available there afterwards.  Mum was adamant that her passing not be a sad moment, but a time for celebrating life. Thus, we hope you will join us after the memorial service for a wake, a party, a celebration—whatever you want to call it—a joyous gathering to remember this beloved lady. The celebration will be held at the Cornerstone, located immediately next to the church.  To celebrate, we’d love those who have them to please bring a memory (written or to be told) or your favorite photo of your time with Frances. For those who can’t attend, these can also be shared in advance with her children. BYOB and laughter!

Frances was a force of Nature. From her birth on May 27, 1952, in Hampshire, the United Kingdom, Frances was an adventurer from the start.  As a young person, she excelled in sports and held the All England 100M and 200M sprint track record for some years.

After marrying Barry Hain on September 13, 1975, the two moved first to Zimbabwe and then South Africa where they lived for 15 years and had four children before making the big leap to the US and eventually, to a small farm in Franklin.

An animal scientist, geneticist and animal lover, Frances spent her professional life working for genetics breeding company and her personal life surrounding by and ebbing and flowing menagerie of sheep, cows, horses, and any number of dogs and cats.  Her gardening skills were matched only by her knack of conversation.  In her travels across the world from New Zealand to Peru, Frances warmed hearts of everyone she met.

She never tired of learning, helping, and laughing amongst friends and family.  More than anything, she persevered.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Marie Pitts, 1006 Seng Ave., Franklin, KY  42134 or the Franklin Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 201 North College Streeet, Franklin, KY 42134.  Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.

Frances Hain was a vibrant, curious, unfailingly caring person. May her spirit live on in all of us.
