Doris Delene Forshee Burysek, who was adept at bringing comfort to whomever entered her home, died Monday in Louisville, Ky. surrounded by family.

The 75-year-old was a passionate force when it came to family, friends and those who needed an uplifting spirit most. As those who knew her best remarked this weekend, Burysek was a woman with a joyous nature, Christian heart and unmatched Southern hospitality.

A devoted wife of 56 years, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Burysek managed to always put her “babies” before herself, planning to ensure everyone was taken care of.

Burysek was born on Dec. 12, 1941 in Franklin, Ky. to the late James W. Forshee and Ola M. Hicks Forshee, and graduated from Franklin-Simpson High School.

Burysek was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Franklin, Richpond Baptist Church in Warren County, Ky., and Parkland Baptist Church in Louisville. She was a believer in the mansion on the hill, where she is no doubt greeting everyone with her famous baked apples and hummingbird cakes.

Burysek is survived by her husband, Jerry of Louisville, KY.; daughter, Denita B. Ohrt (Jim) of Louisville, KY., and son, Craig Burysek (Shelly) of Franklin, KY.; grandchildren, Tyler Burysek (Ashley) of Bowling Green, KY. and Jared Burysek of Franklin, KY., and Lauren Cherry, Jeffrey Cherry, and Alex Cherry of Louisville, KY.; great-grandchildren Eva Burysek, Norah Burysek, and Raylan Burysek of Bowling Green, KY.; brothers Jackie Forshee (Jane), Buddy Forshee (Nancy), and Walt Forshee of Franklin, KY.; sister-in-law Jane Adams of Clarksville, TN.; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive visitors from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gilbert Funeral Home, 325 W Cedar St. in Franklin. The funeral service will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at Gilbert Funeral Home with Rev. Wilbur Powell officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be made to The Lupus Foundation of America in Burysek’s honor at http://support.lupus.org/goto/Burysek. Condolences can be sent to Gilbert Funeral Home or www.gilbertfhonline.com.
